The E-learning Challenge

Engaging an E-learning Project - Special Report

thumbnailIn our June 2007 article we discussed E-learning and some of the challenges understanding the nuances of teh various kinds of e-learning in existence today.

I have been asked often what are the options available to start an e-learnign project for a budget sensitive, smaller to medium size business. Of course the answer depends on what you want to accomplish. Here are some options you could explore.

Option a) Develop individual courses to be deployed via CD, or online within the client?s Learning Management System (LMS)

For this option, you could use tools such as:

www.articulate.com
or
www.PointeCast.com

With these you can take a regular PowerPoint and add animations, flash, etc. These are turned into a flash e-learning course.

The courses can be saved on a CD, a Web site or a SCORM or AICC compliant LMS.

If you are more interested in just doing Webinar or Web cast style presentations, you want to consider Sonic Foundry and Mediasite at www.sonicfoundry.com/

Option b) Developing courses to be deployed in hosted LMS to be managed by you.

Take a look at www.ziiva.com and its Prosperity system. It is an LMS for training vendors. Combine it with Articulate and you have yourself everything you need.

Option c) Larger scope, mid to large size company level LMS with possibility to sell third party courseware.

I would suggest Cornerstone OnDemand www.cornerstoneondemand.com.
